Greetings to you from the United States. My name is Greg Delapp. I am the CEO of the Employee Assistance Professionals Association. Our members are across the US, North America, and represent more than 20 different countries around the globe.

I welcome you to this Institute, the Shengxin International EAP Coaching Institute. To me it is a very important development in the global EA world. Why is that important?

The future of EA is contingent on education and training. We need professionals working in this system of EA who know and understand people issues, who know and understand the workplace, who know and understand the challenges of what it takes today on global basis and global economy, and how to operate in a way that is safe, productive, that has employees attending to their well-being, that has employees fully engaged in the work they do. EA has a role in all of that.

因为教育和培训将决定EAP的未来。我们需要在EAP系统内工作的专业人员理解人的问题，理解职场，了解在当今全球化和全球经济背景下企业面临的挑战，了解企业如何运营才能够事先确保安全和效能，确保员工的福祉，让员工全力投入工作。EAP在所有这些工作中扮演重要角色。

While it may not be evident today, your Day 1 at the Institute, but by the time that you finish training at the institute, it will make perfect sense as it has a role in the modern workplace that is well-defined, but will need more work to make it more efficient. Some of the challenges include the infusion of technology and the tools of technologies available to all of us and in the modern work place and how you can incorporate then in Employee Assistance.

也许在各位加入本学院的第一天，对这些现象还没有明显的体会，但在大家完成学习的时候，会清晰地理解，EAP在现代职场拥有自己清晰的角色，当然，我们需要让这一角色更加高效地发挥其功能。EAP面临的挑战包括如何采用新技术，这些新技术在日常生活中唾手可得，你怎样把它们融入EAP工作？

At the same time, the fundamentals are always there, with the roots of Employee Assistance going back to the 1940s and 50s here in the United States. That fundamental rule is employers hire from the communities where they operate, and because they hire from the communities where they operate, there are going to be employees in their presence who represents the problems of their community. The employer then faces a real challenge, what do I do with the employee and the problems that he or she represents.

与此同时，EAP的基本原则始终未曾改变。EAP的根是在1940-50年代的美国。EAP的基本原理是，雇主所雇用的员工来自周围的社区，因为这些雇员来自周围社区，所以必然会带来社区人员面临的问题。这样雇主就不得不面对一个挑战--如何对待员工和员工遇到的问题。

An Effective response to that is to develop options on how to handle those problems is through employee assistance. A second is to develop the options for the employee to handle his or her problems.

Since we hire from the community where we operate, the employees are going to have problems that reflect that community, and we have resources through the company to redress the issues as a company, and address the issues as an employee. That is a very positive story to tell.

我们的员工来自周围社区，因此必然会带来社区人群的问题，而我们作为企业拥有解决问题的资源，员工作为个体也拥有解决问题的资源，这是一个非常积极正向的故事。

And it’s a positive story you are going to be part of as you enter into this EAP coaching institute. I cant congratulate you enough to being willing to be part of this new effort, one that I quite frankly think will have dramatic effects long-term in training EA professionals not restricted to China.

As you develop more confidence in the work you do, more understanding of the thinking and the academic behind it, you are in a position to advise anywhere in the globe, not just in China.

随着大家逐步了解自己所从事的工作，了解这项工作背后的原理和学术，你可以在全球任何地方开展这项工作，不仅仅是在中国。

I can’t wait to see what this looks like at the end of your training and I am very grateful to be a small part this effort. At any point along the way, in an offer to you individually and to the Shengxin International EAP Coaching Institute, if I can assist you in the understanding of Employee Assistance, or in the operation of Employee Assistance, or just exchange between you and me, I will gladly do that, because my role in all this is to help develop future professionals who will carry the torch for the profession. I am glad to be part of that.
